The Heart of Pupil Transportation
The New York Association for Pupil Transportation estimates that 2.3 million children ride school buses everyday. As a CDL driver, one should take pride is being responsible for the caretaking of America's youth. They are the future! Education is paramount and as a driver, you are the conduit to their arrival each and everyday.

Commercial Drivers Rules Updates
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has issued new rules on hours of service for commercial vehicle drivers to come into effect on 27 February 2012.
On 22 December 2011, the FMCSA released a revised hours of service (HOS) rule for commercial vehicle drivers. The final rule was published in the Federal Register on 27 December 2011. The rule has been slightly modified from the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking of 29 December 2010, which the poultry and egg industry opposed in a comment letter on 28 February 2011.
FMCSA's new HOS final rule revises the 34-hour restart provision. Following a 60 hours in seven days or 70 hours in eight days maximum work week, a driver must have 34 consecutive hours off-duty. Effective 1 July 2013, the revision requires that the 34-hour restart period include two 1 a.m. – 5 a.m. periods based on FMCSA's assertion that nighttime rest is more restorative than daytime rest. The final rule is an improvement over the original proposal, which required two 12:00 a.m. – 6 a.m. periods but may require as little as 34 hours or as much as 48 hours off duty depending upon when driving week ends.

The Reward is Helping Others
Nelson Hernandez is a proud Brooklyn, NY resident. One of many skills, and great experiences; The one skill he coveted most, a CDL License, is what brought him through the Red Hook on the Road doors. After completing the process for application with Red Hook on the Road, Nelson Hernandez was deemed to be an ideal candidate for FREE CDL TRAINING and was accepted into Cycle 152 (January)- the first cycle for the calendar year.
Before coming to Red Hook on the Road, Mr Hernandez had experience in the Medical Manufacturing Industry, having worked for in that sector for almost 15 years. A victim of the corporate shuffle like many others, Nelson made a conscious decision to make a career change. With the help of Red Hook on the Road, Nelson Hernandez has recently been certified with a New York State Commercial Drivers License, on his way to gainful employment as a CDL Driver.
With respect to his experience at Red Hook on the Road, Nelson Hernandez shared these sentiments in an email:
Personally, I want to take this moment to thank each and every one of you at RHOR for all you do to change the lives of many.
I personally heard firsthand from my colleagues attending this training that this was their last hope.
Some were on the verge of eviction while others were having a hard time explaining to their loved ones why they couldn't find meaningful work.
I just want you to know that although you may feel that this is a routine, sometimes mundane task which you perform, we, like many before us, are truly indebted to RHOR for "once we were lost, but now we are found."
May you be blessed.
Thank you !
-Nelson Hernandez, 2012 graduate (cycle 152)
Moments like these are what Red Hook on the Road holds dear. The completion of our objectives, and the satisfaction of our mission statement is a priority.
